We are excited to share that athletics are coming to Central Sands Community High School in the 2025–2026 school year! This is a major milestone for our growing school community, and we are thrilled to offer students a new way to connect, compete, and thrive.
This year, we will be offering the following sports:
Fall – Cross Country
Winter – Wrestling
Spring – Touch Rugby and Track & Field
🏃♀️ Cross Country – Fall 2025
Cross Country will be open to all students entering grades 9–12 in the upcoming school year.
First official practice: Monday, August 18th at 3:30 PM at Central Sands.
We will also be hosting a few fun runs over the summer—stay tuned for more details!
We believe that athletics are a powerful tool for building confidence, fostering teamwork, supporting health and wellness, and strengthening school spirit. Whether students are experienced athletes or trying a sport for the first time, we encourage everyone to get involved.
If you have any questions or need assistance with registration, please don’t hesitate to reach out to us directly. We are here to support your student every step of the way.
We can’t wait to cheer on our Central Sands athletes!
What is it about high school sports that some people love so much?
Is it all about the physical movement, the competition, or does it have more to do with the camaraderie and unity that comes from playing on a sports team?
It is probably a combination of all three, and at Central Sands, we make all three of these aspects available to our students.
Competition is available to our students in a variety of formats, from our sports teams of Cross Country, Wrestling, Tag Rugby, and Track and Field to our own competitive games of volleyball, flag football, or ultimate frisbee to a wide variety of club sports offered in our community, including: SPASH Mountain Biking Club; Stevens Point Curling Club; Wisconsin Blaze Basketball and Volleyball; Iola Winter Sports Club Nordic Ski Team; Stevens Point Area YMCA Dolphins; Portage County Youth Soccer; Stevens Point Ultimate Frisbee Association; and more!
Camaraderie and close relationships built between teammates and coaches is extremely important, and something that draws many students in traditional high schools to sports teams. At Central Sands, we emphasize the importance of community and close relationships between classmates and teachers as a part of our everyday school life. Teachers become the equivalent of academic coaches to their students, encouraging them, pushing them to be their best, and caring about them. Our small school and class sizes means that all students know one another, and a variety of all-school endeavors, such as the Renaissance Faire and the school play bring students together forming the close bonds that often exist between teammates.
Movement is required credit for all of our students and we make a variety of opportunities for movement credit available throughout the school year. These include in-house class offerings such as flag football, archery, folk dance, disc golf, yoga, cross country skiing, and biking. But students may also earn movement credit for any sport of physical activity that they participate in after school.
