Travel Opportunities

As is traditional in most Waldorf schools, our students will have the opportunity to participate in a multitude of travel experiences throughout their time here at Central Sands. We strongly believe that the more interactive, immersive experiences our students can have, the more their eyes are opened to the breadth of diversity, wonder and beauty that the world holds. In addition to class-related field trips and all-school field days, we design intentional travel opportunities for our students in each phase of their high school journey.

Massachusetts Trip 2024

June 8th-15th, 2024 students who are participating in the travel elective will be taking an expeditionary trip to Boston, Plymouth, Cape Cod and Martha’s Vineyard to learn about the rich history, culture, and ecological importance of this region.

The trip will allow students to earn credit in both Social Studies and Science, and in the preceding elective learn the history, culture and ecology of the places we will be visiting.

Throughout the year Travel Elective students will be fundraising in the community to cut down on overall trip expenses.

Anyone who wishes to contribute to 2024’s travel opportunity may also donate via the MA Trip GoFund Me Page.

Historic Boston

Students will begin their trip by exploring historic Boston.

They will have the opportunity to roam Harvard Square (pictured right), seen Faneuiel Hall, walk the Freedom Trail, tour the city by trolley and much more!

Plymouth & Cape Cod

On the second leg of their MA journey, students will become immersed the history of Plymouth and visit various Cape Cod locales.

They will visit more historic sites such as the Plymouth Pautuxet Museum (pictured, left), Plymouth rock, and Provincetown among many others.

Participants will also have STEM based opportunities to learn about marsh ecology kayaking in the marshes of Scornton Creek and go whale watching at the Stellwagen Bank Marine Sanctuary.

Martha’s Vineyard & Oak Bluffs

Finally, Central Sands students will end their journey with a visit to Martha’s vineyard and Oak Bluffs.

Whilst here, students will rent bikes to traverse the island and take in the beautiful scenery. Trip attendants will also learn more about local history, such as that of the island’s deaf community.
